Adult | Clay | All Levels
Members: $195 | Non-Members: $205
Course ID: 3D2501
Concept
Whether you’re a beginner looking to build a foundation or a more experienced ceramicist interested in adding new skills to your toolbox, this one-day workshop explores methods for translating personal imagery to clay. Begin with the fundamental techniques of sgraffito, inlay, monoprinting, and carving on a curved form. Learn the tools and materials of each process as you experiment with slips, engobes, and underglazes. Use bisque molds and slab building to create your curved forms.
Experience
Group discussions, demonstrations, and plenty of hands-on practice address technical skill building, playing with the use of negative space, and framing and breaking up a three-dimensional form to create interesting relationships and narratives. Leave this workshop with a number of experimental cups, low bowls, and hangings for the wall.
Skill Level
All levels welcome.

When Meghan Sullivan had to pick a major in undergrad, she was torn between ceramics and painting. On the way to the Registrar's Office to declare, she flipped a coin. While Meghan is primarily a sculptor, she also loves throwing pots on the wheel. As an educator, she balances humor with high expectations to create a space that allows for experimentation and focuses on developing work. Meghan earned her MFA from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is an Assistant Professor of Art at Lawrence University.
