Concept

Drawing is a rewarding practice that is essential for artists who want to improve their observational skills. Painting and drawing from observation is inherently tied to the way we see our subjects as organized elements such as line and shape. Hector credits drawing as the most significant area of experience that has helped him throughout his painting process. The curriculum of this academic-style workshop is designed to give students a reliable system of drawing strategies to accurately convey the light, perspective, volume, and proportions of our subjects without sacrificing personal expression.

Experience

Join Hector through a series of presentations, examples, live demonstrations, and exercises to gain an understanding of four key observational drawing methods alongside compositional study. Lessons address both linear and tonal drawing methods using primarily graphite and charcoal on varying sizes of paper. Work directly from still life objects and a live model in the studio, and from environment spaces outdoors en plein air. Group conversations close each day.

Skill Level

This workshop prioritizes process over product and is designed for students of all levels of experience, painters who wish to enhance their drawing skills, and beginners who are looking for an accessible place to start.
