Magical Realism merges elements of realism with the fantastical, mythological, and dream-like. In this one-day workshop, discover how to use the fundamentals of observational drawing to create imaginary spaces.
Experience
Instructor-led discussion introduces historical and contemporary references to conceptional and magical realism; from Medieval Spanish and Italian painters to Hollywood. Begin with drawing exercises focused on form and shape, and light and shadow. Using life observation, photography, and other objects as influences, conceptualize a composition entirely your own. Move your ideas into reality through thumbnail compositions, studies and planned drawing phases, and a final work on toned or white charcoal paper. Individualized feedback is provided throughout the process.

SUPPLY LIST
Will Dickinson grew up in Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC, where he was exposed to the arts at a young age. This influenced his decisions to pursue an education at the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences and the Glasgow School of Art, where he majored in Fine Arts and Anthropology, graduating with high honors. Will was a guest artist in Umbria, Italy for two years, which informed his artistic works and inspired him to become an instructor. For over a decade he has taught indoor and outdoor classes. Will is currently an instructor with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, WI, where he maintains a studio.
