Printmaking, with its intrinsic ability to make multiples, has been used by artists around the world to spread messages for hundreds of years; from woodblock prints spreading religious imagery across ancient China, to Kathe Kollwitz portraying the plight of everyday citizens in Europe during WWI, to José Guadalupe Posada’s satirical etchings and lithographs communicating the news, to Andy Warhol’s screenprints of political figures and pop icons, to Caledonia Curry (aka Swoon) combining printmaking and street art to engage the public on contemporary issues. During field trips to PenArt, Door County students will use a variety of printmaking techniques to highlight their own lives and concerns. The resulting prints are on display in Kids Create: A Message to the Masses.
