Living in Fish Creek

Location
Peninsula School of Art is located in the center of Door County – a 70-mile-long region in northeast Wisconsin containing 34 named islands, dozens of lakeside towns, and more picturesque farms and orchards than we can count. With its unique natural environment and rich cultural history, Door County has inspired artists for generations.
Peninsula School of Art and the Residency House are a half-mile from downtown Fish Creek (population 997). Local attractions include several taverns and restaurants, Fish Creek Market for all of the essentials, Nelson’s True Value for hardware and much more, YMCA, Door County Auditorium, Peninsula State Park, and Lake Michigan.
Greater Door County features a number of galleries and artist studios, performing arts venues, miles of county and state park trails, lighthouses, a restaurant with goats on the roof, and unbeatable sunsets. While Door County is often thought of as a summer and fall destination for tourists, it’s a great place to spend the winter and spring – a bit quieter, but equally beautiful. -

Weather and Climate
It’s cold and snowy here in the winter (0-40°F) and into the spring (20-50°). Bring winter weather gear including clothing you can layer, a hat, scarf, warm gloves, and a coat. Waterproof winter boots are important. You might also want to bring a waterproof winter coat and pants if you plan on hiking, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing.
