Artist Selection

The invitational process.

The Door County Plein Air Festival is an invitational event.

Our artist selection process begins the year prior to our Festival. A committee comprised of both notable, professional artists and collectors invites the field of approximately 35 artists.

Committee Considerations

When extending an invitation to an artist for the Door County Plein Air Festival, the Invitations Committee considers the following criteria:

  • The artist should be recognized regionally/nationally as a plein air artist.

  • The artist is currently represented by a fine art gallery with sales and regional/national media exposure.

  • The artist has been juried, or invited to participate, in other national plein air festivals within the last two years.

The committee also considers the following:

  • Artists must represent a variety of media and styles.

  • Approximately 40% of participating artists reside in the Midwest.

  • Approximately 30-40% of participating artists are new to the Festival each year.

As this is an invitational event, we do not solicit submissions. If you choose to send us information, please send by email only to events@PeninsulaSchoolofArt.org.
